New Trailer Shows John Cena and Alison Brie Caught in Chaotic Coup in Action-Comedy ‘Freelance’

The film, directed by Pierre Morel (known for ‘Taken’) and featuring Alice Eve and Christian Slater in prominent roles, is scheduled for release in theaters on October 6th.

In the initial trailer for the upcoming action-comedy movie “Freelance,” John Cena and Alison Brie find themselves entangled in a political uprising. Directed by Pierre Morel, known for “Taken,” this film by Relativity Media is set to hit theaters on October 6th.

The storyline revolves around Cena, a retired Special Forces operator, who comes out of retirement to protect and escort Brie, a journalist, to interview a foreign country’s dictator. However, their arrival coincides with the onset of a perilous coup in the country.

In a pivotal moment in the trailer, Brie tells Cena, “I’m accompanying the president of a country in the midst of a coup. This is the opportunity of a lifetime.” Cena responds candidly, “You need to stay alive to make it the opportunity of a lifetime.”

Following their harrowing escape from danger, Cena inquires, “Are you still enthusiastic about covering a coup?” To which Brie calmly responds, “To be honest, my excitement is waning.”

Pierre Morel takes the director’s chair in this film, working from a screenplay penned by Jacob Lentz, known for his work on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The ensemble cast boasts talents like Juan Pablo Raba, Alice Eve, Marton Csokas, and Christian Slater. Serving as executive producers are Michael Arrieta, Danny Chan, Court Coursey, Marc Danon, Jaime Hernandez, Walter Josten, Lex Miron, and David Robbins.

John Cena remains quite occupied this summer. Following his roles in the blockbuster “Barbie” and as the voice of Rocksteady in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” he now takes the lead in “Vacation Friends 2,” set to premiere on Hulu on August 25th. Meanwhile, Alison Brie not only co-wrote but also starred in “Somebody I Used to Know,” a romantic comedy on Prime Video that debuted in February.

Both actors have ties to the world of professional wrestling, with Cena gaining fame in WWE, and Brie earning two Golden Globe nominations for her leading role in Netflix’s “GLOW.”
