Ektaa R. Kapoor of India to Receive Recognition at International Emmy Awards
Ektaa R. Kapoor, the co-founder of Balaji Telefilms, a prominent TV production company in Bollywood, is poised to be honoured with the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award.
Having ventured into the industry alongside her parents, Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor established what would eventually evolve into one of South Asia’s most prolific television production entities in 1994. This venture expanded with Balaji Motion Pictures in 2001, a filmmaking subsidiary that contributes to the creation of numerous notable Bollywood projects annually, including the well-received social comedy-drama “Kathal” on Netflix.
The distinctive Emmy trophy from the International Academy is scheduled to be bestowed upon Kapoor during the 51st International Emmy Awards Gala on November 20, 2023, held in New York City. This recognition underlines Kapoor’s significant contributions to the entertainment industry.
“Ektaa R. Kapoor has masterfully nurtured Balaji into a preeminent force in India’s entertainment landscape, commanding the television content sector with an extensive viewership that spans India and South Asia through their enduring series and influential OTT platform,” remarked Bruce Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in an official statement released on Tuesday.
With a remarkable portfolio, Balaji has produced an impressive 17,000 hours of television content and 45 movies under its banner. It has also taken a bold step into the digital realm by launching Alt Balaji, a streaming platform that has made its mark in India’s entertainment scene.
Kapoor herself expressed, “Television has been pivotal in my journey of self-discovery, especially as a woman dedicated to crafting narratives for women. This accolade grants me the privilege to stand for them and our collective achievements on the global stage.”
The International Emmy’s Directorate Award stands as a tribute to excellence in television entertainment across all facets of the industry.
