Bleecker Street Acquires Ariana DeBose Sci-Fi Thriller Film ‘I.S.S.’

Bleecker Street has acquired the science fiction thriller I.S.S., directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and starring Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, Pilou Asbaek, and John Gallagher Jr. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the sci-fi thriller “I.S.S.” directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite. This marks Bleecker Street’s second collaboration with Cowperthwaite after the 2017 drama “Megan Leavey”.

Produced by LD Entertainment, “I.S.S.” stars Ariana DeBose, John Gallagher Jr., Chris Messina, Pilou Asbæk, Costa Ronin, and Masha Mashkova. The film follows six astronauts – three American, three Russian – conducting research aboard the International Space Station when war seemingly breaks out between the U.S. and Russia back on Earth.

“I.S.S.” had its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival. Bleecker Street, who plans a nationwide theatrical release, has previously partnered with LD Entertainment on “Anthropoid” and “Teen Spirit”. The acquisition of this sci-fi thriller with an acclaimed ensemble cast continues Bleecker Street’s track record of releasing compelling, talent-driven films.

The escalating tensions back on Earth lead mission control to order the American and Russian crew members aboard the I.S.S. to take control of the station at any cost. This results in violent conflict breaking out between the rival teams in the zero-gravity environment as they struggle for survival.

American astronauts Kira (DeBose) and Christian (Gallagher Jr.) end up pitted against their Russian counterparts – Weronika (Mashkova), Alexey (Asbaek), and Nichola Pulov (Ronin). The close quarters of the space station lend to twists and turns as former colleagues engage in a tense life-or-death battle.

I.S.S. was produced by Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon. Executive producers include Michael Glassman, Mehrdod Heydari, Jacob Yacob, Joseph Yakob, and Alison Semenza.

Bleecker Street negotiated the acquisition deal with CAA Media Finance representing LD Entertainment. The agreement paves the way for Bleecker Street to distribute the sci-fi thriller theatrically across the U.S.
