A senior citizen named Duke reads a love story to a patient in a modernized nursing facility from his notebook.
In a carnival, Noah finds Allie.
A 17-year-old girl named Allison “Allie” Hamilton is seen by poor lumber mill employee Noah Calhoun at a carnival at Seabrook Island, South Carolina, in 1940. They start dating in the summer after he follows her.
Allie’s parents, John and Anne Hamilton extend an invitation to Noah to attend a lunch at their home, but they are dissatisfied with him.
The parents of Allie forbade her from seeing Noah.
Noah brings Allie to the deserted Windsor Plantation, which he plans to acquire and renovate for them.
Allie’s parents disapprove of the relationship and restrict her from seeing him. Following a disagreement, Allie ends her relationship with Noah, but she soon regrets it.
Noah and Fin volunteer to fight in World War II.
Together with Fin, Noah enlists to serve in World War II, where Fin loses his life in action.
